CRIMINAL IN THE AMERICAN OUTBACK DURING THE PROHIBITION PERIOD

В статье рассматривается деятельность организованных преступных группировок в нескольких американских перифериях в период сухого закона. Опираясь на следственные дела ФБР, автор освещает методы работы рэкетиров в отношении производителей винограда, а также психологическое воздействие на местное население и его последствия. С опорой на источники, проанализировано социально-экономическое состояние американской глубинки, основные тенденции развития в сфере производства винограда. Рассмотрены предпринятые действия со стороны Федерального бюро расследований с целью предотвращения деятельности организованной преступности как на периферии, так и в местах сосредоточения поставок продовольствия, необходимого для бутлегерства. Подведены итоги сухого закона в сельской местности, его особенности.

The article examines the activities of organized criminal groups in several American peripheries during the Prohibition period. Based on the FBI investigative cases, the methods of work of racketeers in relation to grape producers, as well as the psychological impact on the local population and its consequences, are covered. Based on the sources, the socio-economic state of the American outback, the main development trends in the field of grape production, were analyzed. The actions taken by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to prevent the activities of organized crime, both on the periphery and in places of concentration of food supplies necessary for bootlegging were considered. The results of Prohibition in rural areas, its austerity, have been summed up.
